Wellness shouldn’t feel exclusive.
It shouldn’t require the “right” body type, years of experience, or the confidence to walk into a room where you don’t see yourself reflected. That’s why Urban Asanas has become such an important part of Brooklyn’s wellness landscape.
Founded by Jyll Hubbard-Salk, this Crown Heights based, Black woman owned studio’s mission extends far beyond teaching yoga poses. They’re creating an environment where movement becomes medicine, mindfulness becomes a daily practice, and community becomes part of the healing process.
At Heart, Body & Soul, we’ve had the privilege of partnering with Urban Asanas during The Black Man’s Health Festival®, where they’ve introduced many participants to yoga, breathwork, and mindful movement for the very first time. Watching someone discover that wellness can be accessible, welcoming, and even enjoyable is always inspiring.
As someone who has experienced the physical and emotional challenges of recovering from heart disease and cancer, I’ve come to appreciate that healing doesn’t always happen in hospitals. Sometimes it begins by simply learning to slow down, reconnect with your body, and breathe. I have had the privilege of working directly with Jyll throughout my healing journey and I am doing better as a result of her teaching and guidance.
Urban Asanas reminds us that wellness is a practice, not a destination.
Whether you’re looking to reduce stress, improve flexibility, strengthen your body, or simply create more intentional moments in your day, this is a space that welcomes you exactly as you are.
